In memoriam.

[mere_ubu]

Like most of the fandom today, I've been mourning the passing of Andy Hallett. Lorne is, without question, my favorite AtS character; he has a snappy wit and a nurturing warmth that I've always imagined are qualities that his creator must have possessed in good measure as well. Simultaneously fabulous and matter of fact, Lorne is like the fantastic, improbable offspring of Liberace and Bea Arthur. And something green.

Mr. Hallett's shiny light surely will be missed. Doll!fic and haiku might not be appropriate memorializing media, but it's all I got.

[Sidenote: I got all misty while I was making this, which hasn't happened (while playing with dolls, anyway!) since I was a kid; I wasn't allowed Barbies until I was almost too old for them, so there were all sorts of elaborate, morbid doll melodramas. Sad!]

I couldn't resist the Thelma Houston song; the intro to "Life of the Party" where starts singing it may be my all-time favorite Lorne moment. Every time I see it, I think, "Don't cut! Let Lorne sing the song!"

*nods* I think it's a role that they wrote specifically for Andy, and I think that a lot of the generosity that comes through in Lorne was probably largely just a natural part of him. He'll be missed, that's for sure.

Yeh, and while I agree with the 'crappy term' part, the end of the term means packing up my office and some pretty serious bittersweetness. I'm not necessarily looking forward to that. Overall, this term (and note that we old school people still say 'term') has not been horrible, except for the part that involved being afraid that I might have to give up my life's calling. The teaching part was ok, but I understand that things have been a pain over there.
