For this week's [livejournal.com profile] fantas_magoria "School Hard" Flash Challenge: "Spike has fought two Slayers in the last century, and... he's killed them both." says Giles. Write a haiku poem for each of those incidents.

Nice progression.

Wow! Excellent. The second one perfectly captures what this kill gave to Spike: identity.

Thank you, darlin. And OMG! *hands* I actually turned on the laptop to FB your fabulous [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy contribution and was sidetracked by haiku. *lol* They talked fancy to me with their flash challenge! I'll not be thwarted any longer. :D

Yay! I saw the flash challenge and immediately thought of you. :) Nice ones.

Hee! Thank you--I'm flattered. I was supposed to be working on my [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy entry, but I found the siren call of the flash challenge irresistible.

Spike seems quite a fool

Yay for more Spaiku!
Is Spike always inspiring?
Nice execution! :)

Another haiku!
Spike never fails to inspire
tiny word pictures.

Thank you, dear. Happy Friday! :D

Oooh. Tingly-good. Something very prophetic about those lines...

From: [identity profile] mere-ubu.livejournal.com

Wow, thank you! I think I was playing with the idea of Spike having been "called." And that's the first "tingly-good" I've ever gotten. Mind if I frame it and hang it on my wall? :D

Happy Friday to youuu!

Yup, the Legendary Dark Warrior is born.

Yay! More Spaiku!

I really like both of these especially in the context of the challenge, because they only use the info contained within the ep.

All we know from "School Hard" is that Spike killed two Slayers and that one was during the Boxer rebellion. Too many of the other challenge Spaiku include info we don't find out until season 5 and FfL. So, yay you, for keeping the info to what is known from the ep.!

I love the way you distill the story to those handfuls of syllables! You really are able to sum up so much about Spike's identity. Both in trying to separate from Angelus (being "badder"; who could be more bad that a vampire who slays Slayers?) and from William (would William ever have killed anyone, let alone young women?)

Any idea when we will get more FfL Spaiku? **waits hopefully**

From: [identity profile] mere-ubu.livejournal.com

Thank you so much! I have to admit that good feedback from you always makes me a little squeeful. I'm not sure that I intentionally limited myself to "School Hard," but I'm glad to hear that it at least seemed that way. Heh. (Mostly I think I was just being stingy and trying not to use anything that I might want later for FFL!) I'm working on my haiku for [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy right now but then will return to FFL soon. I'm also hoping to work my way through S2 more thoroughly now that the [livejournal.com profile] fantas_magoria train has pulled into Spikeville.

Hope you have a lovely weekend, lady!

Aw, thank you so much, sweetie. I'm glad you enjoyed them!

Lovely weekend to you, Ms. C!

Great addititions to your Spaiku collection.
Two battles, two vctories - giving Spike his purpose.

From: [identity profile] mere-ubu.livejournal.com

Thanks so much, Louise! I hadn't planned on getting anywhere the near Slayer battles right now, but I couldn't resist when I saw the flash challenge. How often does someone actually ask for haiku?!

Happy Friday to you. :D

From: [identity profile] missus-grace.livejournal.com

Great haikus! I knew you wouldn't be able to resist this challenge :)

From: [identity profile] mere-ubu.livejournal.com

Hee! Thank you, ma'am. You know me so well. I had a lot of stuff to do last night, but the second I saw that I was like, "OMG! *hands* They actually want haiku! That never happens!"

Happy Friday. :D

Re: Hello!

Hey there, darlin! I miss you, too! I emailed you & Andy this morning from work but the outgoing mail server at Hx has been wacky lately. Did you get it? Lemme know and I'll re-send. :(

If you go back one post, you can see pics of Z. in her fab Halloween gear. She was spooooky.

ooo these are definitely my favorites so far! And it's all rounded up with those two verses. Very well done *memmed*

From: [identity profile] mere-ubu.livejournal.com

Wow, thank you so much! I was stupidly excited when I saw that this week's challenge was haiku, and I've really enjoyed seeing what everyone has come up with.

From: [identity profile] beloved-77.livejournal.com

he was meant for this

Indeed, he was. I love the idea of the slayer's blood speaking to Spike. They cannot communicate via modern words, but blood is base and primal, a language that everybody understands.

All hail mere, Queen of Spaiku! :-)

From: [identity profile] mere-ubu.livejournal.com

Awww, thank you, sweetie! *wipes eyes* I promise to only use my power for good. And to do stuff to Spike. Heh.

I always imagine that Spike felt as "called" to his destiny as any Slayer, and I was trying to find the moment where he knows it. Glad it worked for you!

From: [identity profile] zanthinegirl.livejournal.com

Very nice!

They really show Spikes development over the course of his long, bloody life... I'm always amazed at how much you can say is so few words!

From: [identity profile] mere-ubu.livejournal.com

Thank you! I've been getting kinda long-winded with the haiku lately, so having to tell those stories in only two haiku was pretty daunting. I'm glad I found an angle that worked for you!

From: [identity profile] thismaz.livejournal.com

Very nice. Spike's discovery of a purpose in the first and his attainment of it in the second makes these two incidents, so far apart in time, connect.

From: [identity profile] mere-ubu.livejournal.com

Thank you for the feedback! I always imagine that there were probably at least a few Slayer battles in the intervening years where he got his ass handed to him, but I'll leave that to the fic people. The haiku, she can only do so much! ;)

From: [identity profile] clawofcat.livejournal.com

The sec I saw that flash challenge, I was thinking, "Oh shit! Mere is going to knock this out of the park." I then laughed diabolically. Of course, you didn't disappoint. Loved the incorporation of her "foreign tongue."

Mere's seasoned knowledge
of canon lends great insight
to her toil and craft

Penning Spike's journey
thrills the masses, earth's happy meals
hungry for doll fic

*tackleglomps you*

HAHAHA! Well, I thank you for your vote of confidence. And for your extremely flattering haiku! Can you see me blushing? I had so much going on the other evening, but there was no way I was gonna be able to resist that flash challenge. *sheepish* There may have been shrieking and giggling when I first saw it. And unseemly hand-clapping. The biggest challenge was trying to figure out how the hell to write about those two Slayer battles without giving away anything that I want to use in my "Fool for Love" haiku! I do plan on getting there. Someday. The going, she is slow.

Damn insightful!

Spike-the-poet, interpreting foreign words in his favor. Spike-the-poet turning his second victory into a new title (in the end, it's about the words, you know :)

Stellar job.

From: [identity profile] mere-ubu.livejournal.com

Thank you so much! And I love what you said about it all being about the words with him. *sheepish* I don't think I had even thought about that. Wait--I mean, yeah, I meant to do that! ;)

From: [identity profile] brunettepet.livejournal.com

These are both excellent. Spike transforms from William the Bloody to Slayer of Slayers in thirty-four syllables. Well done.

From: [identity profile] mere-ubu.livejournal.com

The notion of writing anything longer than a haiku intimidates the tar out of me, but I really enjoy trying to see what I can fit into a handful of words. Thank you so much for your kind feedback!

From: [identity profile] philips.livejournal.com

Girl’s fierce blood tells him
what her foreign tongue cannot:

I MISSED THIS?

The fierce vs. foreign. Some things just stick long after you stop saying them out loud. You found the two words that play perfectly off each other.

I light my unused lighter in honor of you.
::clicks::

Slayer of Slayers. SOS. Hmmm.

::does the Mere dance:: It's a very cool dance.

From: [identity profile] mere-ubu.livejournal.com

Hee! *loves* You're an adorable nutburger. I think the Mere dance may be the thing I did a few minutes ago where I tripped and almost did a faceplant then managed to not fall but tripped four more times in quick succession. Kinda like a mazurka.

Thank you, darling. I light my pretend cigarette with your unused lighter. ;)
